Daily Internet might be a fairly young company, but as a team we’re pretty old in web hosting and domain name experience. We’re all passionate about this industry and feel strongly about making the most of our knowledge of what works well for customers and what doesn’t to make Daily.co.uk the best it can possibly be. Here’s a little introduction:
Abby Hardoon, Managing Director
A founder member of Magic Moments, later part of the Host Europe group, back in 1996, Abby barely needs an introduction to those familiar with the history of the web hosting world. Abby led Host Europe through a tremendous period of success, culminating in its sale to Pipex for over £31 million in 2004, and now has every intention of leading the Daily team to similar strengths.
Specialist Subject: Enthusiasm!
Alison Curry-Taylor, Operations Director
Formerly of 123-reg, Alison joined Host Europe back when it was still a fledgling and managed to leave before it flew the Nottingham nest. Possibly the loudest member of the team, Alison keeps us all organised with an impressive collection of clipboards, makes sure we keep the good ideas coming, and then gets us to implement them all as soon as efficiently possible. Alison has already escaped the tyranny of the 5 day week and dreams of owning a narrowboat in the not too distant future.
Specialist Subject: Fishing
Julie Joyce, Finance Director
Previously of Host Europe, Julie is our official Holder of the Purse Strings. From keeping an eye on the performance of all our products and advertising and putting best practice procedures in place to making sure we all get paid, Julie’s really rather important. She has also created by far the nicest office space – where the rest of us just have a miniature cow and possibly an interesting mug, Julie has proper pictures.
Specialist Subject: Bouncy Castles
Simon Amor, Research and Development Director
Ex-Host Europe type Simon is our Chief Coder Extraordinaire. As head of the product development team, Simon makes sure all our systems and processes are as efficient and effective as possible and keeps all new product additions and developments on track. He’s also the developer behind the Daily team’s alternative online residence, www.shartak.com - if you fancy a game, you’ll probably find us there in our breaks.
Specialist Subject: Counterstrike
Harry Webster, Research & Development
Our early bird coder, Harry is the member of the Dev team who gets up at the crack of dawn and joins the early Support shift in a darkened room – until I get in at half eight and switch the lights on! Integral to the launch of Daily, Harry applied a lot of the lessons learned with A Certain Other Web Hosting Company Which Used To Be Based in Nottingham to the development of Daily’s backend systems, with the result that we have some of the most efficient backend systems we’ve encountered.
Alter Ego: Arthur
Alaisdair Keyes, Research & Development
The fastest coder in the building (probably) – you give a project to Al and he’s finished his bit before the rest of you have brewed your tea. His tea, on the other hand, is kept efficiently warm with a usb mug warmer – this man is not daft. He is, though, another Host Europe refugee.
Specialist Subject: Unexpected Hair Transformations
Ray Supple, Support Manager
Ray is our resident support team guru and current Hairiest Person (er, as far as we know…). After several years spent at the sharp end of technical support at WebFusion, Ray has a pretty good idea of what does and doesn’t make for a good customer experience. He’s one of the reasons you won’t find the phone being answered by a machine when you call us – in fact, as well as leading the technical support team he still pitches in with supporting customers so it’s quite possible you’ll find it answered by him.
Specialist Subject: Sky Broadband
Lori Amor, Technical Support
Lori, another former Host Europe employee, is Technical Support’s most Mac-friendly member. Often to be found at the support desks at the weekend, she’s also multi-talented enough to turn her hand to designing for the website periodically.
Specialist Subject: Design
Alexie Astachenko, Technical Support
Our odd one out! Our resident Russian Alexie has managed to have a technical career in Nottingham without having been employed by some permutation of Host Europe. Alexie shares custody of the Daily biscuit selection with Alan.
Specialist Subject: The importance of the spoon to tea-drinking
Doran Jacques, Technical Support
Formerly of 123-reg, Doran is an expert on all things domain-related and is often seen walking customers through the whys and wherefores of the Domain Name System. A frequent challenger of Ray in the Daily pool tournament, Doran remains consistently baffled by Ray’s unusual technique.
Specialist Subject: Liverpool FC
Nick Walters, Technical Support
A Host Europe veteran, Nick has years of experience providing technical support for every type of web hosting. In other words, he’s a bit of an expert at sleuthing out the causes of customers’ technical issues.
Specialist Subject: LAN gaming
Alan Whitehead, Technical Support
Our resident Instant Website expert, Alan spent several years on the frontline of 123-reg support. He can detect a misplaced bit of IW code at 20 paces, and he’s pretty good at eShop too. Equally particular about his tea, Alan is a proponent of the milk-goes-first method and shares custody of the Daily biscuit selection with Alexei.
Specialist Subject: DIY
Carlos Almeida, Systems Administration Manager
Carlos is our friendly London-based server guy and a former Host Europe employee. If the Daily servers need to be rebooted, Carlos is the man, and if they’re due to be upgraded or otherwise given some TLC, Carlos is the lucky chap that gets up at the crack of dawn to do it when our customers are least likely to notice the work being done.
Specialist Subject: Caffeine
Cat Widdowson, Marketing Manager
Your resident Daily Blogger and the newest member of the team. I’m yet another escapee from Host Europe, having joined back in 2002 and stayed for half a decade. I’ll be making sure customers, advertising, the website and the industry at large are all kept up to date with developments at Daily. When at home, I can often be found fending cockatiels off the laptop. And the telly. And the curtains. And the bookshelves…
Specialist Subject: Knitting
And not forgetting… Sue! Our tireless clearer-upper and general organiser, Sue is quite possibly the most important person in the office because she makes sure that there’s enough tea, coffee and sugar to keep the rest of the Daily team going!
