3D Secure – what is it?

If you pay for an account with Daily, there’s a good chance you’ll be using 3D secure to verify your card details. So, we thought we’d explain a little about what it actually is.

3D secure is not a Daily invention – it actually refers to the official Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode secure payment schemes developed by the banks as an extra level of protection for online card payments.

During the payment process, customers are securely forwarded to their bank’s website for Chip and Pin verification. The code you use will be known only to yourself and your bank – we have no access to it, and neither do other companies who use this payment scheme. It’s just like when you tap your pin number into the card reader in a shop. Once the bank has authenticated the transaction, customers are redirected back to Daily.co.uk’s website to finish their purchase.

If a customer hasn’t registered their card for 3D Secure payments they may be asked to do so during the authentication process – it just involves confirming a few security details with your own bank and setting a pin number for future use. If you have any problems with this process, the best thing to do is contact your bank directly.

Once this is done, the extra level of security can be used on any website that makes use of Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode to secure card transactions. Members of the Daily team have even used the system when ordering pizza! Don’t forget to keep your Pin number safe at all times, making sure you only disclose it on official authentication websites of your bank.
